I was at FedSq watching the game last night, and what a game it was. Bring on UK vs AUS!!!!

SOCCEROO fans rocked the city last night as Federation Square became the epicentre of Melbourne's World Cup celebrations.

The roar could be heard across the CBD and Southgate as they cheered their heroes to victory while watching the action on the square's big screen.

As the 8pm kickoff drew closer wave after wave of face-painted and jersey-wearing fans poured from Flinders St station into the square until it could take no more, with the crowd spilling on to the banks of the Yarra. They came to watch the nail-biting, do-or-die World Cup 2006 qualifier between the Socceroos and Uruguay, which came right down to the wire in a penalty shootout after extra time.

The Socceroos may well have heard the racket all the way in Sydney's Telstra Stadium, with the crowd of about 5000 erupting. Flares lit up the roaring mob and the celebrations were still happening three minutes after play resumed.

This is the first time they have qualified for the World Cup in 32 years
