 Storms and Floods

Day 302
Melbourne, Australia
3rd February 2005

We have had rain non stop and it has caused flooding all over the place, on the way into work this morning shop signs were hanging off and trees were all over the roads. The river has overflowed and trees have been falling over on trains, cars and houses.

Melbourne's average February rainfall is 45.8mm, but the city received 120mm of rain in the 24 hours to 9am (AEDT) today, more than for any other day in any month since records began in 1856.

The previous record for rainfall over the city in 24 hours was 108mm in 1951.
